There’s nothing quite like getting away from the buzz of the city for some much needed rest and relaxation after lots of hard work. That’s exactly what we did in May. The LightSpeed team spent 2 nights in the luxurious villa Maison Noir (who just so happen to be one of our happy clients) for a bit of fun in the sun, some reflection, some planning, and a bit more fun.
One of the many highlights of the incredibly luxurious Maison Noir villa is their well stocked kitchen. We took full advantage of it! On our first morning we were treated to an incredible full English breakfast and that evening we cooked ourselves a real feast. Massive credit goes to Ashley (LightSpeed Founder) for providing a huge variety of beers, to Barbara (Accounts Manager) for the amazing dinners and to Iggi (our Project Manager) for making an incredible vegan avocado chocolate mousse.
Being on the foot of the majestic mountains in Hout Bay, it would’ve been criminal to not take a hike. On our first day we went up the Hoerikwaggo Trail, past the Overseer’s Cottage to the Reservoirs on the back of Table Mountain and visited the old Rail Museum where we also stopped for a breather and a bite to eat.
Later that day we held a retrospective session where we reflected on our work over the last 6 months, and to plan ahead for the next 6. We covered quite a few topics, including who would be studying what areas in the coming months, how we’re going to be growing our internal device library for testing and what our thoughts on the development of our new plugin and theme store. We identified opportunities for improving our workflow and hope to see the results of those changes in the coming months.
We also heard presentations from each member on the core area of work they’ve been focussing on for the last few months, giving us all a better of idea of where each team member has been skilling up. We’re a fairly small team, but we don’t all work together on every project, so it was a good opportunity to get a good sense of what was going on in the greater scale.
