About the Project:
Client Overview:
Miriam Mascall is a seasoned yoga instructor and graphic designer who sought to elevate her online presence with a website that not only reflected her brand but also empowered her to maintain and update it independently.
Project Objective:
LightSpeed was tasked with building a new, custom WordPress website utilising the latest WordPress 6.6 grid layout for the homepage, providing Miriam with a modern, flexible platform that fulfilled these goals.
Collaboration and Training:
Throughout the process, we worked closely with Miriam, providing training sessions to ensure she could fully leverage the site’s capabilities.
The Challenges:
Initial Website Issues:
Miriam’s previous website was outdated, with poor navigation and a lack of mobile responsiveness which made it difficult for clients to engage with her content or book sessions.
Design and Functionality Needs:
As a graphic designer, Miriam had a strong vision for the visual design and functionality of her site. She wanted the ability to control and update the website’s design elements herself, which her old site did not support.
Technical and Practical Challenges:
We also needed to ensure that the website was easy for her to manage, despite some of the complex design elements she envisioned, particularly for the homepage.
The Solution:
Custom WordPress Development:
LightSpeed crafted a custom WordPress website that was not only visually appealing and user-friendly but also equipped Miriam with the tools she needed to manage it. The homepage was designed using the new WordPress 6.6 grid layout, allowing for a dynamic and visually striking presentation of content.
Collaborative Design Process:
Given her professional background in graphic design, Miriam had specific ideas for the site’s look and functionality. While some of these ideas presented challenges in translating to practical web elements, we worked collaboratively to find suitable solutions that met her design vision without compromising usability.
Empowering Through Training:
We provided several one-on-one training sessions, focusing on empowering her to edit various types of content, from blog posts and videos to template designs. Miriam learned to use the block editor within pages and posts, updating content with excerpts and relevant block configurations. Once comfortable with these tasks, she began refining the template layouts, which Ash from LightSpeed had implemented based on her designs.
The Results:
Final Website Success:
The new website was a significant success for Miriam, providing her with a platform that was both visually aligned with her brand and functional for her clients. The use of the WordPress 6.6 grid layout on the homepage created a modern, flexible space for her to showcase her content effectively.
Client Empowerment and Satisfaction:
The training sessions proved invaluable, allowing Miriam to take full control of her site, making changes and updates as needed without needing ongoing technical support. This autonomy not only saved her time and resources but also enabled her to continuously refine the site to better meet her and her clients’ needs.
