If I had to describe LightSpeed with one word ~ I’d say different. Not different in the wrong way but in a good way. From the way of how things are dealt with to how things are done it’s not your typical company feel. If I were to make a comparison, it would be the Google way of doing things – open minded, no strict dress codes or rules. You are free to be yourself as long as the work gets done and the procedures are followed.
Integrating into LightSpeed’s Way of Doing Things
I must say joining LightSpeed and getting familiar with how things work was a bit of a wobble. Every company has their own way of doing things and you need to adjust accordingly. My previous company started heading towards the direction LightSpeed is at, but they just couldn’t do it properly. LightSpeed on the other hand is running things more smoothly which I quite like, it’s more in the line of how I would’ve liked things to work. Especially at the project level.
With a nice and easy to understand Employee Guide Book I quickly made myself comfortable with the various systems we use, and how to use them. After a few bumps I managed to smooth out my work flow as well as do what is required each day to keep the production flow optimal through various projects.
Working Environment
With more and more companies moving over to the remote work-space style of working – LightSpeed being one of them, systems need to be put in place to ensure work gets done and deadlines are met. With daily Asana tasks tracking work and progress coupled with quick Skype calls its relatively easy to work remotely. We do meet up once a week in the office in Woodstock for planning for the week ahead, and to touch base on the status of ongoing projects that require collaboration.
The work environment is quite nice, it gives you freedom to focus on your work without being micro-managed but also add the responsibility to keep people updated and making your project deadlines.
You can always count on team mates if you run into trouble, or you are struggling; everyone at LightSpeed is always friendly and more than willing to help out or teach you new knowledge that can help you in the long run.
Moving Forward
I’m excited to see what the future holds, what new projects I get to work on and what I can achieve through working with LightSpeed and my fellow team mates. It has certainly been a enjoyable year with the company and I’m looking forward to the next few years!
